In Primorye, they demanded to toughen the sentence of three foreigners for rape

In Primorye, the prosecutor's office has filed an appeal against the verdict of three foreigners who raped a 22-year-old girl on the beach in Lazurnaya Bay. This was announced on May 27 by the press service of the regional prosecutor's office.

"The maximum penalty under Part 2 of Article 131 of the Criminal Code is 10 years in prison. By virtue of the law, punishment in the form of imprisonment for committing a serious crime to persons who have not previously served it is imposed in a correctional colony of a general regime," the department's Telegram channel clarified.

During the debate between the parties, the public prosecutor insisted on assigning the accused a punishment close to the maximum possible — nine years in prison to be served in a general regime colony. However, the trial was limited to terms from five to five and a half years. The prosecutor's office considered such a sentence excessively lenient and subject to review.

"The court did not fully take into account the degree of public danger of the crime and the identity of each of the defendants," the supervisory authority noted.

In this regard, the prosecutor's office of the Sovetsky district of Vladivostok sent an appeal to the Primorsky Regional Court. The document raises the issue of increasing the punishment to the maximum possible.

On June 18 last year, the investigative authorities of Primorye opened a criminal case on the gang rape of a cafe employee by foreigners. It was reported that four suspects were detained and taken to the department for investigative actions.

Later, a court in Vladivostok arrested four suspects in the rape of the girl. It is noted that the agency has monitored the progress and results of the investigation of the criminal case under Part 2 of Article 131 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Rape"), the sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years in prison, the regional prosecutor's office said.
