Russia appreciates the opportunities provided by Turkey for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated on May 27 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in Moscow.

"We appreciate the opportunities provided by the Republic of Turkey once again for the next stage of direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations," Lavrov said.

In addition, during the meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister also noted the sustainability of trade and investment cooperation between Russia and Turkey.

On May 16, the delegations of Russia and Ukraine held talks in Istanbul. The parties agreed to present their vision of a cease-fire and to exchange prisoners of war in the "1000 to 1000" format.

On May 17, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Turkey's readiness to continue efforts to advance negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, as well as to preserve communication channels between the parties.
