The collective West is pushing Helsinki to an all-out confrontation with Moscow, which is literally destroying Finland's national security. This was stated on May 27 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, at a briefing.

She stressed that the intensification of military exercises in the West indicates NATO's intentions to "fully master the territory of its recruit countries."

"Many people do not even realize what they are talking about, what kind of total confrontation with Russia and, above all, total confrontation with their own national interests they are being pushed by the collective West. And how they literally destroy national security with these steps," the diplomat said.

Zakharova also cited the example of the upcoming military exercises of the Finnish Naval Forces (Navy), taking place from May 21 to 28, with the participation of ships and military personnel from Germany, Sweden and Estonia. This, in her opinion, is a clear confirmation of NATO's desire to strengthen the alliance's strike potential on its northeastern borders.

In addition, the diplomat criticized the Finnish elites for preparing for "some kind of unknown war" instead of solving the country's escalating internal problems.

Earlier, on May 23, it was reported that land exercises involving about 5,000 military personnel had begun in Finland near the Russian border. Maneuvers called Karelian Sword 25 are taking place in the Kymenlaakso region from May 23 to June 1. They involve the military of the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as about 700 pieces of equipment.
