A court in France has replaced the term of imprisonment for one of the attackers of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille with a suspended sentence. This was reported by the newspaper Le Figaro on May 27.
"One of the two researchers at the Marseille National Research Center who threw bottles of liquid nitrogen at the Russian consulate in Marseille has been sentenced to suspended imprisonment," the article says.
It is specified that the relevant decision was made by the Court of Appeal on Monday, May 26. In addition, the newspaper reports that the Consulate General of the Russian Federation was denied compensation claims.
The explosion near the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Marseille occurred on February 24. Unknown persons threw three explosive bottles into the territory of the diplomatic mission, two of them exploded. As a result, no one was injured. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, pointed out that there were signs of a terrorist attack.
The court hearing on the case of the attackers took place on February 27. The defendants admitted their guilt. The court sentenced them to eight months in prison with the possibility of serving their sentences under house arrest with an electronic bracelet, and they cannot own or carry weapons for five years. Zakharova called the relevant court verdict unprecedented and expressed outrage over the verdict.
