Currently, France is losing its influence in Africa due to the inability to provide better conditions for cooperation, including in comparison with BRICS. This was stated on May 26 by German political scientist Eike Hamer in an interview with Izvestia.

"They controlled a lot of African countries because they were the ones who issued the currency there. In addition, they managed the most important industries in these countries. According to rumors, France was taking measures to maintain political relations in its favor. Now it has stopped," the expert explained.

Hamer clarified that the reason could be that France no longer offers favorable conditions for cooperation with former colonies. This is especially noticeable in comparison with the partnership strategy proposed by the BRICS.

"In addition, France joined Germany in a coalition — or, more precisely, the only coalition — with [Prime Minister Cyrus] A starter from the UK, which is no longer as "great" as it used to be. This coalition is directed against Russia, and today against the United States. And African countries no longer see any point in cooperating with France," he said.

According to the political scientist, this is largely due to the policy of socialism that France began to pursue after World War II. As a result, inefficient management led to the decline of industry in the state.

"It was a special kind of socialism — they called it "planning," the French equivalent of a planned economy, a socialist, communist idea. That's exactly what they were implementing. But this model is not beneficial either for the participants or for the former colonies. And now these former colonies are finding new partners who are helping them get rid of French influence," Hamer said.

On March 28, it became known that the Algerian parliament is developing a bill that will consolidate the recognition of France's crimes during the colonial period, if adopted, the country will officially require Paris to pay compensation for the damage caused. According to the bill, France will also be required to admit its crimes and officially apologize.
