- A counter-terrorism unit was involved in the investigation of an accident in Liverpool.
Anti-terrorism police units have been involved in the investigation of a car hitting football fans in Liverpool. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on Monday, May 26.
"At this stage, the investigation is being conducted by Merseyside Police, which covers Liverpool. The police are being supported by the north-western counter—terrorism unit, as detectives are trying to determine the reason why the car hit the pedestrians," the newspaper said.
The participation of anti-terrorist unit officers in the early stages of the investigation is only a precautionary measure, the newspaper said. At the moment, the police are trying to find out whether the hit-and-run was intentional or accidental.
On May 26, in Britain, a car drove into a crowd of people celebrating Liverpool's victory in the Premier League. The incident occurred on Water Street, and several people were reported injured. Later, the Daily Mail newspaper, citing Merseyside police, reported that the hit-and-run was committed by a 53-year-old British citizen.
