The political scientist pointed out Macron's lack of authority after his wife's slap in the face

The incident with the slap that French President Emmanuel Macron received from his wife Brigitte shows the French leader's lack of authority. Political scientist Emmanuel Leroy told Izvestia about this on May 26.

"Now we see how the Elysee Palace is trying to smooth over the situation, presenting what happened as a friendly joke. However, I believe that this incident highlights Mr. Macron's lack of credibility both domestically and internationally. This is an important lesson that should be learned from this situation," he stressed.

Leroy added that the level of support for Macron in France is about 20%, which is extremely low in Western countries, where trust in political leaders has traditionally been much higher.

According to the political scientist, a public slap from his wife indicates the "insignificance and mediocrity" that Macron represents in the political arena. He stressed that the French president often behaves defiantly, which does not correspond to the status of the head of state.

On the same day, Macron explained the slap he received from his wife as a joke. According to him, this incident provoked a "small mess."
