The decision of the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the United States to abandon range restrictions in arms supplies to Ukraine is sad news for peace negotiations. This was stated by Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin on Monday, May 26.

"This is very sad news for future peace talks and for establishing contacts on the Ukrainian crisis. It's definitely very dark and sad," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

Karasin noted that Western countries have long been moving towards lifting supply range restrictions, but they have always been stopped by their unwillingness to aggravate bad relations with Russia.

Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the United States had lifted range restrictions on military supplies to Ukraine.

On May 18, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Merz, speaking about his unwillingness to supply Taurus cruise missiles to Kiev, was actually just playing with words, broadcasting a commitment to "aggressive narratives" rather than support for peace in Ukraine. She also urged not to believe the politician's words that he does not intend to provide the specified weapons to the Kiev authorities.
