Taxi drivers in France staged protests at the Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports in Paris, opposing planned changes in medical transportation tariffs. This was reported on May 26 by the newspaper Le Figaro with reference to the National Taxi Federation (FNDT).

"Charles de Gaulle and Orly have been occupied, as planned, since six in the morning," the newspaper quoted FNDT president Emmanuel Cordier as saying.

It is specified that the demonstration lasted from six to eight a.m. local time (7-9 a.m. Moscow time), and later taxi drivers joined striking colleagues on Raspail Boulevard, near the Ministry of Transport.

The protests of taxi drivers are caused by a reduction in the payment for compulsory medical transportation, as well as unfair competition with the taxi sector, in which the payment for the trip is fixed.

It is noted that the new tariff involves the payment of medical insurance in the amount of € 13, and then the mileage fee. It is designed to prevent waiting for too long. The government intends to limit the growth of medical transportation costs, which reached €6.74 billion in 2024, of which €3.07 billion accounted for regular taxis.

According to Dominique Buisson, the federal secretary of the national taxi Federation, the protests are taking place in a light form today, but from Wednesday, May 28, their demonstration will turn into a blockade if negotiations with the authorities do not lead to the necessary results.

Earlier, on May 19, the mesinfos portal reported that police officers fired tear gas at a demonstration of taxi drivers in Paris. Taxi drivers gathered to protest against the new pricing rules for medical transport, unveiled last week by the Ministry of Health. At first, the action took place in a calm atmosphere.

On May 20, Le Figaro newspaper reported that taxi drivers in France continued to block streets for the second day as part of a demonstration for new conditions of payment for medical transportation. According to the newspaper, there are fewer protesters than the day before, but protests continue in several French cities.
