Poland will hold the largest military exercises in recent years with the participation of other NATO countries. This was stated on May 26 at a press conference by the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh.
"During a briefing with the leadership of the Polish Army, I ordered the first major divisional exercises in many years. The 18th Mechanized Division will conduct such exercises (...) and she will be fully ready to demonstrate her capabilities and skills, including together with our allies," the Polish edition quotes him as saying. Thus, Kosinyak-Kamysh answered the question about Poland's possible reaction to the Zapad-2025 joint exercises between Russia and Belarus, which will be held in mid-September.
The exercises in Poland, codenamed "Iron Defender," have been announced in recent months by the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, General Weslaw Kukula, noted that "one of the tasks of the exercises is to check the units of the 18th Division stationed east of Warsaw for the possibility of working with the equipment supplied to the troops."
Earlier, on May 23, NATO military exercises began in Finland near the border with Russia. They involve military personnel from the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as about 700 pieces of equipment.
