Filat announced a record low birth rate in Moldova under Sandu

In Moldova, during the tenure of President Maia Sandu and the Action and Solidarity Party (PDS), a demographic crisis was recorded. This was announced on May 26 by the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM), former Prime Minister Vladimir Filat.
"In 2024, Moldova recorded an anti—record birth rate of only 23.6 thousand newborns, which is the lowest figure in two centuries. At the same time, 33,5 thousand people died, and taking into account migration, more than 45 thousand people lost in just one year. Today, demographic losses are comparable to a humanitarian catastrophe," Filat wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to the politician, over the past five years Moldova has experienced the most severe demographic decline in its history.
"This is a real assessment of the effectiveness of the government," the politician stressed.
Earlier, on May 21, the leader of the Party of Socialists, former Moldovan President Igor Dodon, said that the next government in Moldova would have to return to direct negotiations with Russia. In addition, the politician called on the Moldovan authorities to return to dialogue with Pridnestrovie and supply gas in the required volumes without hindrance.
Prior to that, on April 30, Dodon said that Chisinau's anti-Russian course had brought the country's economy into a coma. According to him, President Maia Sandu has driven the republic into such debts that there are not even enough external sources of financing to pay them.
