In the future, the United States will become less involved in ensuring Europe's security, and the European Union itself should take responsibility for its own defense. This was announced on May 26 by the European Commissioner for Defense, Andrius Kubilius.

"Naturally, in the long term, the US presence in European defense is likely to decrease, as Americans will focus more on the Indo-Pacific region," he said in an interview with Lithuanian state broadcaster LRT.

According to the European Commissioner, the European Union should prepare for this by fulfilling its obligations to invest in its own defense, which will require a strategic understanding and making "real decisions." The politician stressed that European countries should take responsibility for security in the region, notes "Газета.Ru ".

He also stressed that only 20% of EU defense purchases come from local industry, when at least 65% of weapons come from the United States. According to Kubilius, this is a very clear sign that the association is not investing money in the development of its own production.

On May 24, Bloomberg learned about the plans of European leaders to purchase large quantities of weapons from the United States in order to send them to Ukraine. According to the agency's sources, Brussels is unable to help Kiev without Washington's help.
