The Russian fortress of Kymenegorod at the end of the XVIII century was sold in Finland for €1. After the reconstruction, the territory of the fortress will be used for cultural and leisure purposes. This was reported on May 26 by the Finnish broadcaster Yle.

"The city of Kotka bought the fortress of Kymenegorod, which remained closed for a long time," the article says.

According to Yle, the value of the deal with the state-owned company Senate Properties, which owns the fortress, was only €1. It is reported that the maintenance of the fortress cost Senate Properties about 200 thousand euros per year. According to the country's Finance ministry, the reconstruction of the territory will require spending about €18 million.

Markku Hannonen, Director of Urban Planning, said that for the first time visitors will be able to visit the territory accompanied by a guide, and only at a later stage of reconstruction signs and safe trails will be installed on the territory.

"In the long term, the territory may be open for free use from a wider area," the publication clarifies.

The fortress of Kymenegorod was built in 1791-1795 to protect the border of the Russian Empire with Sweden. After the Russo-Swedish War (1808-1809), it lost its strategic importance, but until 1917, a Russian garrison was stationed there, he adds.Газета.Ru ".

On May 22, the Ukrainian edition of "Public" reported that the monument to Peter I in the center of Poltava was dismantled by the city authorities. It is noted that only the base and the information plate remained in place of the monument.
