Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported ideas to respond to attempts by Western countries to restrict navigation in the Baltic Sea. This was stated on May 26 by Nikolai Patrushev, assistant to the head of state, Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, during a meeting related to navigation in the water area.
"The response measures to the ongoing attempts to restrict navigation in the Baltic Sea were recently considered at a meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Maritime Board. The prepared proposals were supported by the President of the Russian Federation," Patrushev said, quoted by TASS.
According to the head of the Russian Maritime Board, due to NATO's activity in the Baltic Sea, representatives of Western countries are actually attempting to commit acts of piracy, the Newspaper adds.Ru». Among the latest examples, he cited the actions of the Estonian Naval Forces, with the support of the Alliance aviation, to detain the Jaguar civilian ship in the Gulf of Finland, which was carrying Russian cargo.
At the moment, as Patrushev pointed out, the Baltic Fleet is strengthening its position, as well as reliably ensuring the safety of navigation. It prevents the provocations of the naval forces of states that are unfriendly towards the Russian Federation.
On May 20, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the international community to respond to NATO's provocations in the Baltic Sea, which violated international law. She believes that the alliance is acting against the freedom of maritime navigation.
