The fire season of 2025 in Russia began almost a month earlier than usual. In summer, the most difficult forest fire situation is predicted in three regions — Yakutia, Krasnoyarsk Territory and Irkutsk region. This was reported on May 26 in the press service of the Federal Forestry Agency "Izvestia".

About 2.4 thousand fires were registered on the lands of the forest fund on an area of 1.9 million hectares. It is worth adding that in the spring, almost 82% of forest fires occurred in the Trans-Baikal Territory, 50% occurred in the Tungokochensky district and the Chita district. It should be noted that all fires in the region during this period were man-made.

The main cause of forest fires in the spring was the human factor: the transfer of fire into the forest from dry grass from agricultural lands, reserves and other categories.

"The peak of the spring forest fire season has passed. In most regions of our country, it was under control, which indicates well-coordinated work. The spring forest fires were mainly caused by landscape fires, dry grass fires, and violations of fire safety regulations in forests. With the onset of the summer period, the situation has changed dramatically: dry thunderstorms have begun, which means that the forest fire season has entered a new phase," said Ivan Sovetnikov, head of the Federal Forestry Agency.

In 2025, due to dry thunderstorms in Russia, about 120 forest fires occurred on an area of 1.3 thousand hectares, which is 5% of the total number of forest fires. Most of the fires for this reason were registered in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Irkutsk Region, Altai Territory and the Republic of Buryatia.

"The climatic conditions will become more extreme in the summer. High temperatures, dry thunderstorms and increased natural risk factors are expected. Forest fires are forecast in the north of the country in remote and hard-to-reach areas. It is necessary to strengthen preventive measures, respond to fires in a timely manner and mobilize all resources for the rapid localization and elimination of forest fires," Ivan Advisers emphasized.

In summer, the most difficult forest fire situation is predicted in three regions: Yakutia, Krasnoyarsk Territory and Irkutsk region. These territories are considered the most vulnerable due to their geographical location and climatic conditions. In addition, the Arkhangelsk Region, the Komi Republic, as well as the Central Federal District and the Southern Federal District are among the potential risks.

The Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Alexander Osipov, announced on April 7 that a regional emergency regime had been introduced in the region in connection with forest fires. According to him, almost all fires in Transbaikalia since the beginning of the year have been caused by humans.
