During the summer period, there is high solar activity, radiation does not affect the skin in the most favorable way if it is excessive. As a result, this leads to the process of photoaging. Olesya Luchenkova, a cosmetologist and dermatologist at the Galaktika Aesthetic Medicine Clinic, told Izvestia how to take care of her skin in summer.

"[Photoaging] is not only the appearance of age spots, but also the expansion of capillaries, inflammatory processes, thickening of the surface layer of the skin, deterioration of the quality of collagen and elastin fibers. And this leads to a state of elastosis. To understand what it is, just look at a very old grandmother. Her skin is all wrinkled and wrinkled. Sun exposure brings us much closer to this type of skin," she said.

According to her, in order to preserve the health and youthfulness of the skin, it is necessary to use sunscreen, as well as sunglasses, hats, do not sunbathe from 12:00 to 16:00 during the active period of solar influence on vacation, at sea, in the mountains.

One of the main protective mechanisms of the skin when exposed to sunlight is the production of melanin, that is, the appearance of pigment. This includes a dark tan on the skin, and local age spots.

"In order to protect the skin from the appearance of excess pigment and the appearance of various age spots, it is necessary to use sunscreen. And you need to apply it daily 10-20 minutes before going outside, because the chemical protection factors in sunscreen must react biochemically with the surface skin cells. Only a cream with physical protective factors can work immediately," the doctor added.

It is also important to moisturize the skin so that the quality of collagen fibers, its elasticity, and tone do not decrease under the influence of sunlight. Among the effective procedures, the cosmetologist named mesotherapy or biorevitalization. In this case, specialists make multiple small injection punctures and inject hyaluronic acid and antioxidants in order to create homeostasis and improve hydration levels so that the skin can withstand solar radiation in the summer.

"Modern cosmetologists have various hardware techniques that prepare the skin 10-14 days before vacation or sun exposure. These are procedures such as HydroFacial care, Dermadrop and other techniques that smooth the relief, have an antioxidant effect, a moisturizing effect, a lymphatic drainage effect and enhance the protective properties of the skin," said Luchenkova, adding that such procedures can be performed after a vacation.

There is also photodynamic therapy, which affects the skin's immune system, its healthy appearance, and relieves inflammation. It makes it more resistant to both sunlight and various negative factors coming from outside.

"Before vacation, it is necessary to carry out gentle procedures that affect the surface layer of the skin and its microrelief, so that its tone is even and the protective properties are more pronounced. In the summer, you can not use products with retinoids, vitamin C, if you have not done this before, you may get a skin burn. And the most important thing is to actively moisturize your skin in the summer," Luchenkova advised.

Earlier, on April 16, Natalia Mikhailova, a cosmetologist and creator of the MESALTERA by Dr. Mikhaylova brand of professional cosmeceuticals, told Izvestia that mild cleansers should be used in the warm season — foams, gels or mousses with the addition of acids or enzymes. They effectively dissolve sebum and impurities without damaging the skin. At the same time, aggressive formulations and excessive mechanical peeling should be avoided.
