JSC "Production of Passenger Cars" (PLA) continues to work on a project to produce a new Volga car. This was reported on May 26 by Kommersant with reference to the company's statement. They declined to comment on the details of the project.

The Volga line of cars was presented to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on May 21 last year. All models received a gasoline engine with a capacity of 188 hp (300 Nm) in conjunction with a seven-speed automatic.

At that time, it was reported that production of cars would begin in 2024 at the site of the Nizhny Novgorod automobile cluster, and from 2025 it was planned to start assembling Volga cars in full cycle mode. According to Izvestia, the prototypes for the three Volga models were cars from the Chinese automobile company Changan. The volume of investments in the project for the production of new Volga brand cars will exceed 60 billion rubles, the press service of the Volga brand said.

At the end of last year, Izvestia wrote that JSC PLA, which is reviving a well-known Russian passenger car brand, does not want to attract too much attention to this project yet, although work on it continues.

On May 26, it was reported that by the end of 2025, the model range of the Hongqi brand in the Russian market will expand to 10 cars. Sales of three new products will begin in the coming months.
