Russians have announced an improvement in living conditions thanks to a mortgage

More than half of Russians (55%) say that mortgages have had a positive impact on their lives. Such data was provided to Izvestia on May 27 by the Level Group company, which studied the opinion of borrowers. At the same time, one in four admitted that the housing loan worsened their situation, while 20% did not notice significant changes.
As the researchers found out, mortgages have become an incentive for many to increase incomes — 38% of respondents stated this. Almost a third of the respondents (27%) noted that the loan brought them a sense of stability and confidence in the future. Another 21% admitted that monthly payments disciplined their expenses, and 10% got rid of the stress associated with renting a home.
"According to our research, more than half of Russians who had a mortgage loan paid it off ahead of schedule (52%)," said Julian Ovechkin, head of the mortgage department at Level Group.
He stressed that mortgages teach competent financial planning and the search for additional income.
However, there is a downside to a housing loan. Almost a third of the respondents (29%) are forced to work more because of mortgage obligations. One in five (21%) constantly worries about the possible loss of work and housing, and 7% admitted that they had to reduce their usual standard of living.
Despite the reduction in the volume of preferential mortgage loans by more than half in 2024 (178.5 thousand loans compared to the previous year), this tool remains in demand among Russians seeking to purchase their own homes.
On April 7, it became known that more than half of Russians (59%) plan to form family savings of more than 500 thousand rubles. According to the data obtained in the course of the research of Sberbank Life Insurance and the search and recruitment service "Work.<url>", men and women who want to accumulate this amount are almost equally divided — 61 and 56%, respectively.
