There were 664 road accidents in Russia over the weekend.


Over the past weekend, 664 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 77 people were killed and 813 injured. 63 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on May 26 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
So, in the Penza region, at night, on 345 km of the federal highway R-158 Nizhny Novgorod – Arzamas – Saransk – Issa – Penza – Saratov, a driver of a passenger car from Kyrgyzstan drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with another passenger car. As a result of an accident in the car of the culprit, two passengers were killed. Both drivers, three passengers of the second vehicle (including two girls born in 2022 and 2014), as well as five other passengers from the first car were hospitalized with injuries.
22 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 22 more road users, including three children, needed medical help. Nine bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 131 road accidents, 47 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 87 outside their area of operation, 14 pedestrians were killed, and 120 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 40 child pedestrians, 28 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.
In addition, 140 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 147 young road users were injured, including 57 passengers, 18 cyclists and 22 motor transport drivers. Six children were killed, three of whom were passengers, two were pedestrians, one was a cyclist and another was a motor vehicle driver.
So, in the Chelyabinsk region, in the early morning, on 42 km of the Miass–Karabash–Kyshtym regional highway, a 23-year-old driver of a passenger car who does not have a driver's license ran into a metal barrier on the right in the course of traffic. Two of his passengers were killed in the accident, including a 14-year-old schoolgirl who was in the back seat and was not wearing a seat belt. The culprit of the accident refused to conduct a medical examination for intoxication.
In Moscow, a 20-year-old carsharing driver ran over a 14-year-old teenager who was crossing the roadway on a regulated pedestrian crossing at a forbidding traffic light. As a result of the accident, the student died.
In Lipetsk, a crossover driver, while driving through a courtyard, ran over a six-year-old boy who was running across the roadway in front of a nearby vehicle. The unaccompanied child died.
In one of the villages of the Saratov region, a passenger car driver ran over a 10-year-old cyclist who, unaccompanied by adults, was moving along the right edge of the carriageway in the same direction as the car that hit him. The young cyclist died.
In the Republic of Khakassia, on the 275th km of the Achinsk - Uzhur –Shira–Troitskoye regional highway, a 14–year-old motorcyclist without a driver's license did not provide an advantage in traffic when leaving a secondary road at an intersection and collided with a passenger car moving along the main road. As a result of the accident, a 12-year-old motorcycle passenger died, who, like his driver, was traveling without a helmet. A minor motorcycle driver was hospitalized with injuries.
The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting driving without the appropriate right and driving skills.
The lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially in the evening, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department said. The State Traffic Inspectorate drew the attention of parents to the administrative responsibility for providing the opportunity to drive motor vehicles to children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category.
"We recommend that motorists be more careful on the roads of towns and cities. Special care should be taken by people driving when driving through courtyards, crossing intersections, and approaching pedestrian crossings. Driver's discipline is especially necessary if there are child passengers in your car, who should be transported in compliance with all applicable safety requirements," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.
On May 26, it was reported that the average fine for traffic violations in Russia in the spring of 2025 was 930 rubles. This is one and a half times more than the same period last year.
