WP has learned about Germany's intention to transfer old Patriot missiles to Ukraine

The German authorities plan to transfer older and less effective missiles to Ukraine for American-made Patriot air defense systems. This was reported on May 26 by The Washington Post (WP).
It is noted that Berlin plans to send its old PAC-2 Patriot missiles to Ukraine, which, unlike the new PAC-3 missiles, are not as effective at intercepting ballistic missiles.
The publication adds that the administration of US President Donald Trump allowed Germany to re-export Patriot materials to Kiev after Ukraine signed an agreement on minerals. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told reporters that his country would transfer Patriot missiles to Ukraine along with four IRIS-T systems, short- and medium-range weapons that are effective against cruise missiles but not ballistic missiles.
The official added that for other countries, the transfer of Patriots to Ukraine is a big problem, since they are expensive and are an important part of each country's national security apparatus.
Earlier in the day, it was reported about the problems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces when using the Patriot air defense system. The launchers of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not fully functional and often have to undergo repairs.
