The European Union (EU) wants to replace the Agency for International Development and Relief (USAID) in third world countries. This was announced on May 26 by the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.

She stressed that the EU Council is going to discuss the consequences of the cancellation of USAID assistance programs and how the European side can replace them.

"Of course, we have strategic priorities. We cannot completely fill the void left by the United States, but we are focused on priorities. This is what we will discuss," she said upon arrival at the meeting of the EU Development Council.

On May 22, the Reuters news agency reported that the Bureau of the US Department of State for Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) will receive part of the powers of USAID by order of US President Donald Trump. It was clarified that the department will be responsible for coordinating Washington's response to humanitarian emergencies abroad.
