The psychologist advised the ways to choose an educational institution

When choosing an education, it is important first of all to focus on your life plans and the chosen professional vector. By choosing to study "for the company," "by rating," or "just to get in," we deprive ourselves of a real choice for the future. On May 27, Veronika Vinokurova, a career guidance counselor, psychologist, and co-founder of the Point B school of career choice, told Izvestia by what principle an educational institution should be chosen.
"The first question when choosing an educational institution is not "where", but "what" you want to study. And only when the professional vector is chosen, we begin to study the institutions that train specialists in our field," the expert said.
At this stage, she recommended to carefully study the curriculum of the educational institution and teachers. It is important to find out exactly which subjects you will have to study every day and how they correspond to what is really needed in your chosen profession. It is also worth learning about internship and employment opportunities, as well as the participation of employers in training. The more connections an educational institution has with real employers and internship opportunities, the better.
However, you should be realistic about your abilities, motivation, and level of knowledge. The higher the rating of an educational institution, the more time and effort it will take to master the program and the higher the level of basic knowledge and training should be.
"Focus on your values and the criteria that are important to you in your relationships with other people. By choosing to study, you choose your future social circle, traditions, and a certain "corporate culture." Will you be comfortable and interested in studying with those who study at this place? To what extent are the culture and traditions of this educational institution yours?" said Vinokurova.
She also advised to be critical of online reviews. It is best to talk personally with those who are studying right now, and with those who are dissatisfied, and with those who like to study. The expert recommends studying different opinions so that the picture is complete.
She noted that it is impossible to teach someone who does not study. And no one, even the strongest training program, will make a student a specialist without his efforts. And a program that lacks something can always be strengthened and supplemented.
Earlier, on May 20, Kristina Ivanenko, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Presidential Academy (RANEPA), told how parents can help a student decide on a future profession. The specialist noted that parents should not take the position of an expert, but rather become a mentor for the child and together with him look for ways to solve the problem.
