- The media reported on the EU's intention to impose sanctions against Romania due to budget deficit

The European Commission (EC) may impose sanctions on Romania for refusing to comply with commitments to reduce the country's budget deficit. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 26.
The EC is monitoring the economic situation in Romania and expects the government to provide a plan to reduce the deficit for seven years.
"Brussels is already examining the country's inability to present a clear deficit reduction plan over the next seven years," the agency said in a statement.
According to the newspaper, any deviation of Romania from the fulfillment of Bucharest's obligations in the field of economic policy should be coordinated with the EU executive body. If Romania refuses to comply with Europe's demand, sanctions will be imposed against it.
"At this stage, Romania needs to fulfill its fiscal reform obligations before asking the European Commission to review the deficit reduction plan," concluded EU Finance Minister Marcel Bolos in Bucharest.
On May 20, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, in X (ex. Twitter) reported that the foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) approved the 17th package of sanctions against Russia. She clarified that the EU has adopted the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, which affects, among other things, about 200 ships of the shadow fleet, which in Brussels are associated with the Russian Federation. Kallas noted that the new measures are aimed at countering hybrid threats and supposedly protecting human rights.
