A 36-year-old taxi driver accused of murdering a passenger has been detained in Chelyabinsk. A criminal case has been opened against the man. This was reported on May 26 in the press service of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region.

"An investigator of the investigative department <...> of the SU IC of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region has opened a criminal case against a 36-year—old local resident accused of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder")," the department wrote on its Telegram channel.

According to the investigation, on May 22, the missing girl's mother contacted the Chelyabinsk police. According to her, her daughter stopped contacting and did not show up at work. It is reported that during the trip, a conflict broke out between the driver and the victim, as a result of which the man strangled the girl, took her to the forest and buried her body in an attempt to hide the traces of the crime.

"Currently, the investigator is deciding on the choice of a preventive measure, and a complex of forensic examinations has been appointed," the Investigative Committee added.

Investigators are continuing to carry out activities aimed at collecting evidence of the crime, the statement said.

On May 24, it became known that investigators had opened a criminal case into the murder of a woman in Kazan. It is reported that the ex-husband suspected of the crime also injured his son on his birthday. According to a neighbor, a man broke into his ex-wife's apartment and stabbed her in the throat.
