Canadian volunteer, blogger Brandon Mitchell and American photojournalist David Guttenfelder illegally came to the Kursk region to the territories occupied by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) before their liberation. This was reported on May 26 by RIA Novosti after analyzing their social networks.

Mitchell posted on the Instagram social network (owned by the recognized extremist Meta company, its activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) pictures from Suji. In addition, the Canadian is a mercenary and raised funds to help the units that participated in the attack on the Kursk region.

The American photojournalist, in turn, worked in the region as a journalist on the side of Ukraine. In Cambodia, he took pictures of destroyed houses, Ukrainian equipment, as well as wounded soldiers and the bodies of dead soldiers. Guttenfelder published the photos with a postscript from the New York Times. Guttenfelder also visited Sumy region and Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).

In addition, representatives of the volunteer organization Blagulabilen from Sweden illegally entered the Kursk region. It turned out that they were bringing aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters, including cars. On social networks, volunteers posted a picture near the Pyaterochka store in Sudzha, which was destroyed by the Ukrainian army.

RIA Novosti clarified that a security source confirmed that Guttenfelder, Mitchell and the Swedish volunteers did not have a Russian visa or accreditation for journalistic activities when illegally crossing the state border.

On January 29, the Leninsky District Court of Kursk arrested British citizen Jerome Starkey in absentia, who illegally entered the Kursk region to film a report on the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region. He was charged in absentia under Part 3 of Article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal crossing of the state border of the Russian Federation"). The Briton is currently on the federal and international wanted list.
