Sri Lanka has recorded the largest outbreak of chikungunya fever in 20 years.

The largest outbreak of chikungunya fever in 20 years has been recorded in Sri Lanka. This was announced by the Russian Embassy on May 26.
"The Ministry of Health of the republic, as well as local leading virologists, have recorded the most active outbreak of chikungunya fever on the island over the past 20 years," the embassy wrote on its Telegram channel.
According to them, the disease is transmitted through the bites of yellow-horned mosquitoes, which are most active during the daytime. The symptoms of infection appear within 2-12 days after infection and include severe joint pain, fever, and skin rash.
Due to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation, the Russian Embassy strongly advised citizens staying in Sri Lanka to take precautionary measures. In particular, it is recommended to use mosquito nets on windows and doors, apply repellents to skin and clothing according to the instructions, and wear closed clothing during daylight hours.
In early April, the French Regional Health Agency (ARS) launched an emergency "white plan" at the University Hospital of Reunion amid an outbreak of chikungunya fever.
