- Bild has learned about Germany's plans to suspend the reunification of refugee families for two years

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt plans to introduce a new bill, according to which refugees without a defined status will no longer be able to apply for family reunification. He reported this to the German newspaper Bild on May 24.
"Family reunification for persons with subsidiary (temporary. — Ed.) the defense is suspended," the publication says.
According to Dobrindt, this bill is aimed at minimizing the initial incentives of refugees, which "attract" them to Germany.
It is noted that this decision will be submitted for discussion and approval by the Cabinet of Ministers of Germany on Wednesday, May 28.
On May 23, the Tagesspiegel newspaper reported on the deportation of about 6 thousand refugees from Germany in the first quarter of 2025. It is expected that if deportations continue at the same pace, more than 24,000 people will be deported from the country this year.
