Trump agreed to postpone the imposition of 50% duties on EU goods until July 9.

US President Donald Trump has agreed to postpone the imposition of duties of 50% on goods from the European Union to July 9.
"I agreed to postpone the date, I think, to July 9th. It will be on July 9th," Trump said during a conversation with reporters aboard his plane.
According to him, the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen asked him about it during a telephone conversation. The American leader added that the EC intends to move on to serious negotiations on this issue. He also noted that they "had a very nice chat."
Von der Leyen, in turn, after a conversation with Trump, announced Europe's readiness to move forward in negotiations on duties with the American side. In her opinion, the EU and the United States have the closest trade ties in the world.
On May 23, Trump said that it was very difficult to trade with the EU, and therefore he recommended that trade duties of 50% be imposed on the union countries from June 1. According to him, difficulties arise due to powerful trade barriers, value-added tax, unjustified lawsuits against American companies and other reasons.
