- The deputy spoke about the fight against the rewriting of history in the Sverdlovsk region

Alexey Svalov, a deputy of the legislative assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region, who was approached by residents of the region with requests to check the events held in Yekaterinburg by the Yabloko party, told Izvestia on May 25 about how local authorities are fighting against the rewriting of history.
He noted that law enforcement agencies had stopped the "Evening of Letters from Political Prisoners," an event hosted by Yabloko.
"Even based on the name itself, it sounds very strange. The main purpose of this event was to write letters to persons convicted under unconstitutional articles. If you look at who the letters were written to, these are people who were convicted of terrorist activities on the territory of the Russian Federation, for promoting different values," the deputy said.
It is specified that the ideological mastermind of the event was Maxim Petlin, previously convicted of extortion. In addition, young people, as well as minor children, were involved in the action, Svalov emphasized.
According to him, this is not the only event held in Yekaterinburg aimed at distorting history, involving the younger generation. Svalov indicated that he, as a deputy of the legislative Assembly, is very concerned about this issue.
"The story of this event began in winter. I received an appeal from one of the caring residents of Yekaterinburg, respectively, after reading it, having studied all the arguments that were attached there, having studied the information on the Internet, <...> in fact, they drafted an appeal, sent deputy requests to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Interior Ministry. Accordingly, you and I are seeing the finale of this activity today — people have been detained," Svalov concluded.
According to a source in Izvestia, one of the detainees is suspected of committing an administrative offense for promoting LGBT ideology on the Internet (the movement is banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as extremist).
Earlier in the day, it was reported that ten participants in the Evening of Letters from Political Prisoners rally were detained on suspicion of justifying terrorism in Yekaterinburg. According to the Izvestia source, during the meeting, the suspects called the terrorists political prisoners, justifying their criminal activities.
