In the coming year, projects for the construction of wooden apartment buildings will begin in Russia. This was announced on May 25 by Vladimir Koshelev, First Deputy Chairman of the relevant Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on Construction and Housing and Communal Services.

According to him, at the moment, the fire services are testing such high-rise buildings for direct flame exposure, and according to the results of the experiments, there are good indicators.

"Within about a year, projects will begin to be implemented quite actively, even if they do not involve high—rise housing, but medium-rise, up to five floors of wooden houses should appear in our country," the deputy said in an interview with TASS.

Koshelev stressed that wooden buildings are earthquake-resistant. In addition, they are much more durable than reinforced concrete and brick houses, he added.

Earlier, on May 5, Pavel Kokarev, a leading process engineer at the Porevit federal plant, told Izvestia that prices for popular materials for building houses in Russia had dropped to 25-30%. According to him, the cost of aerated concrete, which is popular in individual housing construction, is 30% lower this year, silicate blocks are 22% lower, and expanded clay blocks are 29% lower. At the same time, cement rose in price by an average of 10%, concrete by 10-15%.
