The media learned about the launch of the railway nationalization process in the UK
The British government has re-launched the process of nationalizing the Southwestern Railway network with the assistance of the country's Labor Party. This was reported on May 25 by The Guardian newspaper.
At the same time, British Transport Minister Heidi Alexander said that a "new dawn" had begun for the country's railways.
Previously, the Southwestern Railway was owned by private operators FirstGroup and MTR Corporation, but now it is under the ownership of the Department of Transport.
It is reported that the full process of nationalization of the railway network is planned to be completed by the end of 2027, when the deadlines for the execution of previous contracts expire.
British railways were first nationalized by Clement Attlee's Labour government in 1948. In the 1990s, John Major, the Conservative Prime Minister, privatized the railways.
Back in 2018, the British Labour Party announced plans to nationalize the railways if it came to power. It was noted that these measures will help expand the democratic economy in the country.
