The DPRK Defense Ministry declared a threat to peace due to the increase in US spending on nuclear weapons

Rising U.S. spending on nuclear weapons threatens global security. This was announced on May 24 by the head of the Department of Policy of the Ministry of Defense of the DPRK.

"The United States is trying to suppress independent sovereign states with the help of nuclear military superiority. In particular, in April, the commander of the American forces in the Republic of Korea publicly announced the existence of a nuclear war plan with the DPRK," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted him as saying.

He believes that Washington, under the pretext of external threats, is unreasonably creating conditions for building up its Armed Forces. Thus, the US administration has allocated more than $1 trillion to the military budget and officially announced the creation of a new missile defense system.

"The construction of a new missile defense system in the US mainland, as well as the published plan for a comprehensive upgrade of three types of nuclear strategic strike weapons, is fraught with an imbalance in global strategic stability," the statement said.

The Korean Defense minister stressed that one should not forget that the global strike command of the US Air Force conducted the second test of the Minuteman-3 intercontinental ballistic missile this year, saying that this is part of measures to contain the threat of the 21st century and reassure allies.

"The obvious way for the United States to ensure its own security is not to build up military force, but to abandon aggressive plans against other countries," the report says.
