Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban rejected the EU's plan to finance the Ukrainian army. He announced this on May 24 on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"We need to invest in our own armies, but they [the EU] expect us to fund Ukrainian [troops] with billions over the years. We have made it clear: Hungary will not pay," he said.

On May 24, Orban held an urgent government meeting, the agenda of which was the energy threat coming to Hungary from Ukraine. According to the Prime Minister, the suspension of gas transit by Kiev and the plans of the European Commission (EC) to abandon Russian resources pose risks to Hungary's energy security.
