The Russian Interior Ministry called the information about the development of a total ban on lending false. The official representative of the department, Irina Volk, informed about this on May 24.

"In connection with the appearance in the media space of materials about the alleged initiative of the Russian Interior Ministry to 'totally ban' lending to citizens, I would like to inform you that these publications were caused by an inaccurate interpretation of the response of the deputy head of the Investigative Department of the Russian Interior Ministry Danila Filippov to a question from the audience after his speech at the Positive Hack Days 2025 forum," she said.

According to her, the divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, with the assistance of other interested departments, are constantly working on new methods aimed at protecting the population from fraud carried out remotely. Law enforcement officials are also discussing various ideas.

Volk noted that the ministry is not working on legislative changes related to restrictions on granting loans to people.

On May 14, lawyer Anton Uskov reported on how to protect himself from fraudsters. According to him, the attackers have the opportunity to apply for a loan for the victim if they have a scan of the identity document. It may end up in the fraudster's possession if it is lost or due to the transfer of their data to third parties via the Internet or by phone.
