A criminal case was opened in Mari El after the death of two teenagers in an accident

In Mari El, a criminal case was opened against the driver of a car that collided with a moped, resulting in the death of two teenagers. This was reported on May 24 in the press service of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the republic.

It is noted that the accident occurred the day before, on May 23, on the 2nd km of the Marie-Turek –Marie-Bilamor highway. According to the investigation, the driver of the VAZ car, who does not have the right to drive a vehicle, collided with a moped driven by two teenagers.

"A criminal case has been opened against a resident of the Mari-Turek district, suspected of committing a crime under Part 6 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence")," the department's Telegram channel says.

The SU of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Mari El clarified that the person involved had been detained, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure for him was being resolved.

The relationship with the victim was recognized as a mitigating circumstance.

An accident involving a car and a moped in Mari El, which killed two young people, became known earlier that day. According to the regional State Traffic Inspectorate, the accident occurred due to a violation of the safe distance by the driver of the car. The moped was driven by a 16-year-old boy, and a 17-year-old girl was traveling with him.
