European diplomats and heads of state fear that US President Donald Trump may turn away from Kiev and focus on concluding economic cooperation with Russia. This was reported on May 24 by The Guardian newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the leaders of European countries, who hoped for the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions by the American leadership, were very depressed after they heard Trump's statements about his telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It is noted that the respectful and rather friendly tone of the conversation between the heads of state, as well as the unwillingness of the United States administration to impose new sanctions against Moscow, bring the United States closer to the conflict in Ukraine, which will be a "nightmare for Europe."

The Atlantic magazine reported on May 22 that Trump wants to establish closer ties with the Russian president, and the White House is likely to consider the possibility of meeting the heads of state again soon.

Putin and Trump had a two-hour telephone conversation on May 19. During the conversation, the presidents of Russia and the United States discussed, among other things, the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian president called the conversation informative, frank and useful.
