Electricity went out in Cannes on the closing day of the film festival

A major power outage occurred in Cannes on the closing day of the film festival. This was reported on May 24 by Var-matin.
"This Saturday morning, at about 10 a.m. (11:00 a.m. Moscow time. — Ed.), electricity was cut off in the west of the Maritime Alps. <...> Screenings were stopped in cinemas and the audience was asked to evacuate," the publication says.
Telephone communication was also difficult in the city. Traffic lights went out of order in Antibes. Electricity was also cut off in the cities of Juan-les-Pins and Vallauris. It is specified that the film screenings of the festival were restored at the expense of the generator.
According to the Izvestia correspondent, there was no electricity during the film festival for about an hour. Because of this, it was not possible to download electronic tickets, resulting in long queues. The Internet users helped others. They distributed the connection from their devices. In turn, French journalists reported that due to an electrical failure, the western part of the Alpes-Maritimes department was affected.
Earlier, on May 20, it was reported that the main mobile communication networks in many regions of Spain were out of order. Movistar, Orange, Vodafone, Digimobil and O2 were affected because of this. Experts called the reason for the massive failure the carrying out of "network modernization works" by the telecommunications company Telefonica.
