The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has requested from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) the schedule and composition of groups without the participation of the Russian national ice hockey team for the 2026 Olympics. This was announced by IIHF President Luc Tardif on May 24.

Earlier, Sportacentrs reported that the IIHF congress decided not to allow the Russian national team to participate in the 2026 Olympic Games.

"The decision is made by the IOC, not the IIHF. The IOC has requested from the IIHF the schedule and composition of groups without Russia's participation at the Milan Olympics," he told RIA Novosti.

The day before, the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) announced that the issue of the Russian national team's participation in the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy was raised at the IIHF Congress in Stockholm, but there is no concrete decision yet. It was noted that the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and the RIHF will hold additional consultations in the summer on the participation of Russian teams.
