In Australia, five people became victims of floods, more than 10 thousand houses were flooded, the authorities began to clear the affected areas, the Reuters news agency reports.

"Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that clearing [of territories] has begun in the south-east of the country after floods that killed five people and flooded more than 10,000 properties," the material says.

The last victim of the flood was an 80-year-old man. He was found in a flooded area in one of the most affected areas.

According to the agency, hundreds of flood-affected locals are still in evacuation centers.

As the agency previously wrote, the floods triggered three days of incessant rains. At the peak of the disaster, about 50,000 local residents were isolated. According to some experts, the reason for such "extreme weather events" was climate change.

Earlier, on May 20, it was reported that three people died due to thunderstorms and floods in the Var department in the communes of Vidoban and Les Lavandou, located in the south of France. It is specified that 186 mm of precipitation fell in Vidoban in the morning alone, but the monthly precipitation rate in this region is 54 mm. In other communes, precipitation amounts to about 80-100 mm.
