The diplomatic initiatives of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his recent visit to Moscow have raised concerns among the United States and other Western countries about Malaysia's rapprochement with Russia and China in an effort to confront the United States. This was reported on May 24 by the South China Morning Post newspaper.

"His (Anwar Ibrahim. The diplomatic initiatives have caused confusion among observers of Malaysia, concerned that the Malaysian leader is getting too close to China and Russia," the article says.

As the newspaper pointed out, the Malaysian Prime Minister's visit to Moscow took place at a difficult time, when the country is trying to find a balance in the face of escalating international competition and instability in world trade. Putrajaya, the administrative center of Malaysia, is seeking to protect its economy from the high tariffs that U.S. President Donald Trump plans to impose as early as July.

It is noted that Anwar has repeatedly stressed that Malaysia adheres to the position of geopolitical neutrality, since establishing friendly relations with all countries is a matter of the survival of its economy, which depends on trade.

Anwar Ibrahim visited Russia on May 14 and held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is his second trip to Moscow since taking office in 2022.

On May 15, Anwar Ibrahim, after walking through Moscow during an official visit to the Russian Federation, said that he was impressed by Russian history and culture, noting the grandeur of Red Square and the beauty of St. Basil's Cathedral. The Prime Minister also said that between the meetings he managed to visit Zaryadye Park, as well as look at the Moskva River.
