- The RIHF announced the absence of a decision on the participation of the Russian national team in the OI-2026

The issue of the Russian national team's participation in the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy was raised at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) congress in Stockholm, but there is no concrete decision yet. This was announced on May 23 on the website of the Russian Hockey Federation (RIHF).
"As part of the Congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation, the issue of the participation of Russian national teams in the 2026 Winter Olympics was raised," the statement said.
It is clarified that the final decision has not yet been made. The IIHF, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and the RIHF will hold additional consultations in the summer on the participation of Russian teams in the 2026 Olympic Games.
On May 17, Russian ice dancing champions Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin recorded a video message to the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Kirsty Coventry, asking them to explain the reasons why they were not allowed to participate in the qualifying competitions for the OI-2026 in Italy. It was clarified that athletes have already been left out of the Olympic Games twice through no fault of their own.
