The decision of the European Union (EU) to cancel duty-free trade with Ukraine will destroy the economy and undermine Kiev's ability to fight. This was announced on May 23 by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Affairs Dmitry Natalukha in an interview with the Euractiv portal.

"It seems that politics within the European Union is undermining our economic ability to continue the war effort," Natalukha said during his visit to Brussels.

According to him, the abolition of duty-free trade will also lead to a 70% reduction in Kiev's production. In particular, these measures may deal a blow to the agro-industrial and metallurgical sectors of Ukraine.

The MP clarified that such actions could lead to a situation where Kiev would have to "beg" for money from the EU. In addition, Natalukha stated that the representatives of the European Union rejected his requests for a meeting during the visit.

Maxim Chirkov, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at GUU, noted in a conversation with Izvestia on May 23 that the cancellation by the European Union of the preferential trade regime for Ukrainian agricultural products would hit the country's economy, which is already in a difficult state.
