Rosprirodnadzor intends to file lawsuits against the owners of tankers sunk in the Black Sea if they do not voluntarily pay compensation for the damage caused. This was announced on May 23 by the head of the department Svetlana Rodionova.

According to her, the agency sent two letters to the companies. The owners of the tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 had a month to pay compensation for the damage, the total amount of which is 85 million rubles.

She added that the first notification came on April 18, and the second on the 22nd. According to her, the owners have a few extra days to pay due to the postal shipment. Thus, the deadline for emails expires this week.

"Next week we will file both lawsuits at the same time," Rodionova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

In addition, she noted that at the moment the companies have not provided responses to the letters sent by Rosprirodnadzor.

Tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024 due to bad weather. The incident caused a spill of petroleum products. 27 people were evacuated from both ships, one person died. On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
