- The United States suspended sanctions against Syria for 180 days for humanitarian aid supplies

The United States suspended sanctions against Syria for 180 days to provide Damascus with electricity, water and humanitarian aid. This was announced on May 23 by the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"In accordance with the promise of the President (of the United States Donald Trump. To ease sanctions in Syria, I have issued a 180-day exemption from mandatory sanctions provided for in the Caesar Act," he said in a statement posted on the website of the US State Department.
He stressed that these actions were the first step towards new relations between the two countries. Rubio noted that Trump thus provided the Syrian government with a chance to promote peace and stability both inside and outside the country.
"The president has made it clear that he expects relief to be followed by swift action by the Syrian government on important political priorities," the statement concluded.
Following a meeting of the EU Council in Brussels on May 20, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that the EU countries had decided to completely lift the economic sanctions imposed on Syria. Later, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, on his page on the social network X, thanked the EU for lifting sanctions.
