Russia ranks first in the world in terms of forest area and second in terms of freshwater reserves, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said on Friday, May 23.

"8 million hectares of forest were planted, which is significantly more than the figure associated with the disposal of forests. We have the first reserves of forests in the world, the second reserves of fresh water," he told reporters.

Patrushev also drew attention to the need for a responsible approach to the international community in preserving the appropriate reserves of natural resources in the required volume and quality.

On the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation noted the importance of effective management of natural resources. According to him, the conservation of biological diversity is a challenge for all states and international cooperation plays a crucial role here.
