Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, told us what to do if a dog is overly active.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, May 23, the specialist noted that the pet may be overexcited after packing for a walk, the arrival of guests or bathing. Most often, this behavior does not pose a danger, but in some cases requires the intervention of the pet's owner. Sometimes such a surge of energy is accompanied by undesirable behavior.

"A dog jumps, puts its paws on a person, or even shows aggression. If this happens regularly, it is necessary to adjust the behavior of the pet, " said Golubev.

According to him, the main thing is not to raise your voice or scold your pet. A calm tone will be the main helper in this matter. It is also important to avoid triggers, and you can also throw out pieces of treats if the dog is already showing a surge of energy. Any game or activity will distract the pet, and overexcitation will gradually subside.

It is also important to train a dog and reward it with treats or praise for the right action or good behavior.

In rare cases, you will have to deal with the causes of overexcitation — for this you should contact a veterinarian who will select a sedative.
