- The Russian Embassy reported on the shelling of a research vessel off the coast of Mozambique.

On May 10, the Russian scientific research vessel Atlantis was fired upon by unknown assailants off the coast of Mozambique. This was announced on May 23 by the Russian Embassy in Maputo.
"Unidentified persons fired at the Russian scientific research vessel Atlantis off the Mozambican coast of the Indian Ocean. None of the Russians were injured," Polina Zhukova, the diplomatic mission's press attache, told TASS.
According to the Club of Mozambique portal, citing government spokesman Inocencio Impissa, the Mozambican authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
"It was attacked by two unknown vessels that did not come into contact with the vessel, but opened fire on it," the portal's source explained, stating that the culprit of the attack remains unknown.
It is specified that the Russian ship came under fire when it returned to the port of Maputo at about 15:00 local time (16:00 Moscow time) on May 10.
Earlier, on May 4, NATO aircraft and the Estonian Navy attempted to seize a civilian Jaguar ship in neutral waters bound for Primorsk under the flag of Gabon. There were 21 people on board the ship — citizens of Russia, India and Myanmar. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the alliance is in contact with the Estonian government to clarify the circumstances of the shelling of the ship.
