The crew of the Mi-8 helicopter that crashed in the Orel region heroically led the aircraft away from residential buildings, sacrificing their own lives. This was announced on May 23 by the governor of the region Andrey Klychkov.

"Due to a technical malfunction, a helicopter of the Russian Armed Forces crashed. It happened in a deserted area at a distance of 1.5 km from the village of Naryshkino. The crew took the falling helicopter away from residential buildings at the cost of their own lives," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The governor stressed that the heroism of the pilots will not be forgotten.

The helicopter crash outside the village of Naryshkino in the Orel region became known earlier that day. As a result of the accident, the crew of the aircraft was killed. According to preliminary data, the cause of the crash is a technical malfunction. According to Klychkov, residents of the area where the accident occurred were not injured.
