A resident of Stavropol illegally cut down five fruit trees in a residential area of the city. A criminal case was opened against him, the press service of the regional Interior Ministry reported on Friday, May 23.

A statement to the police was received from a representative of the Oktyabrsky district. The fact of illegal logging was discovered during a tour of the territory. The amount of damage amounted to about 400 thousand rubles, writes IA StavropolMedia.

Law enforcement officers established that a 63-year-old citizen living in the area was involved in the incident. At the police station, the man explained that he considered the trees to be dead wood and cut them down with a chainsaw, although he did not have permission to cut them down.

Earlier it was reported that the Stavropol authorities will allocate more than 11.5 million rubles from the city budget for the repair of LED trees on Dzerzhinsky Street. The main task is to restore the LED-RGB kit.
