On Friday and next weekend, May 23-25, the State Traffic Inspectorate will conduct massive and continuous checks of drivers, special attention will be paid to preventing drunk driving. The upcoming raids were announced by the regional departments of the department.

Traffic police will carry out preventive measures on roads in the Smolensk region, Kirov region, Penza Region, Samara Region, Ryazan Region, Komi Republic and other regions of the country.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminds drivers about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who have got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are carried out on weekends by traffic police on an ongoing basis.

"When you see that a drunk person has got behind the wheel, behaves inappropriately, creates dangerous situations on the road, do not remain indifferent — report this to the police. Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate will definitely take all necessary measures to respond to such reports," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

He stressed that driving under the influence of alcohol is unacceptable and endangers the lives of not only the driver himself, who got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol, but also his passengers, as well as other road users.

The State Traffic Inspectorate recalled that driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing a medical examination, entails the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a heavy fine. In addition, in some cases, the driver faces criminal liability for these acts.

The day before, the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate announced that it would hold a three-day "SIM, Bike Courier" raid in the capital, aimed at preventing traffic violations by users of personal mobility equipment (SIM) and bicycles.
